October Traffic Calmer
Perceived obstacles to traffic calming
Every city wants safe streets. In a survey of American cities, almost all of the cities surveyed listed speeding as a top transportation problem. Traffic calming has become the most compelling solution to reduce speeding and create safer, more livable neighborhoods.

There are several common concerns, however, that impede cities from utilizing calming traffic solutions on their roads. At Traffic Logix, we believe that residents in every city deserve to have safe streets. To ensure this, we continually modify our solutions and expand our product line. Here’s a guide to some barriers your city may face and how our solutions can address them.

Emergency Vehicles
Many cities are concerned that traffic calming devices will slow emergency vehicle response times on primary response routes. Traffic Logix speed cushions were designed specifically to address this dilemma. Speed cushions are a series of small speed humps installed across the width of the road. The cushions encourage motorists to slow down while allowing the wider axle of emergency vehicles to straddle the cushion without slowing down.

Snow Plows
For cities in the snow belt, the winter months can prevent installing traffic calming devices due to interference with snow plows. It can be difficult to plow snow over speed humps or cushions, and solutions can be dug up or destroyed by the plows. Traffic Logix offers a simple solution to this problem. All of our devices are simple to install and can be easily removed each winter and reinstalled in the spring. Our devices have been installed in cities across the Northeast where they are removed each year during the winter months. In cities that use asphalt solutions, snow plow damage often causes cities to have to recreate the devices each spring. This is a timely and costly process. The removable Traffic Logix solutions are a far more cost-effective and convenient solution.

Devices Deforming
With time, concrete and asphalt solutions often contract from heat and vehicle pressure. Traffic Logix rubber solutions, however, are designed to withstand extreme weather conditions and high volume traffic. Product specifications are continuously maintained. The prefabricated shape conforms to traffic calming safety standards and specifications outlined by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). Uniform solutions size also ensures that motorists know what to expect from the devices and can drive over them smoothly and comfortably.

Road Closures and Difficult Installation
Asphalt products often necessitate lengthy road closures. They are time consuming to create and generally require a crew of skilled laborers. Traffic Logix solutions are simple and quick to install. No road closures are necessary. Since each device is comprised of several smaller units, one lane of traffic can always pass as the devices are installed. No skilled labor is required to install the solutions.

Night Visibility
Each Traffic Logix panel is embedded with highly reflective tape. This is a safety feature to ensure that drivers can see the panel clearly even in poor lighting. Unlike paint, which fades within months, highway tape lasts for years of use.

Resident or City Objection to Physical Measures
Resident or city objection to physical measures- For cities that do not want to install physical measures on their roads but still want to effectively slow traffic, Traffic Logix offers radar speed signs. The signs slow cars by making drivers aware when they are driving at unsafe speeds. Traffic Logix signs use unique optical technology, can be powered by power grid or solar panel, and include built-in data collection features.
